Humanitarian Aid
Recently, the Vietnamese government resumed inter-country adoptions with the United States. The Gladney Center in response to the re-opening has decided to partner with Carolina Adoption Services in providing adoption opportunities to Gladney families. Part of the responsibility for agencies in placing Vietnamese children with American families is to help fund humanitarian projects.
Many families have asked how they can help the country that will help complete their family through adoption of a Vietnamese child. Here is that way. Vietnam is one of the poorer nations and these humanitarian aid projects do make it easier for many of the poorest families and children. One of the proudest moments Marshall Williams, Vice President of International Adoption Services, experienced at Gladney was the trip to Vietnam where, in connection with the Red Cross, he presented "care packages" to orphan children, extremely poor families, and the elderly in Can Tho. The need throughout the country is great and your donation will make a difference.
You may be aware of the intense and deadly typhoon that struck Danang recently. Gladney is concerned with three orphanages there that have suffered severe damage. One is a large complex with many buildings, 70% of which had structural damage of roofs and walls. Contents were water soaked and rendered useless. This same situation hit two other facilities in the area where we are engaged. One lost its furnishing, clothing and supplies, which were swept away and destroyed. We have been asked by the directors to help them get back into operation as soon as possible, as the children are still in need. Before the typhoon hit, all children were moved far inland so there were no casualties.
