Honduras Adoption Travel Requirements

Honduran law requires that after the child referral is accepted, both prospective adoptive parents must travel to Tegucigalpa, Honduras to meet the child and complete the Instituto Hondureño de la Niñez y la Familia (IHNFA) family interview and psychological evaluation. This trip lasts about 5 to 7 days. Two - three months later the parents will travel to Honduras for the second trip. This trip generally lasts 6 weeks. During the second trip families will finalize the adoption and visit the U.S. Embassy. During the second trip both parents must travel, but one parent can return home after two weeks.
